Here at Obiter headquarters we got excited about the fact that US firm Jones Day had topped BTI Consulting Group's national survey of client-service performance for law firms for the third time in the poll's five-year history. The firm's margin of victory in the survey of corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 companies was its highest yet, apparently. But what really put us in celebratory mood - apart from the section of the survey that revealed the most arrogant firms in the US - was the news that Jones Day 'as a result was inducted into the BTI Client Service Hall of Fame'. The hall has plenty of room, with Sidley Austin Brown & Wood the only other member.

Frankly we were a bit disappointed not to get an invite to the induction ceremony but have consoled ourselves with imagining what it was like. Yes, the vision of senior US lawyers walking onto a stage through either tickertape or dry ice - accompanied by loud rock music and with cheerleaders chanting the firm's name - before going on to give a Gwyneth Paltrow-style acceptance speech brought a tear of joy to our eyes.
