Young guns: With the Solicitors Regulation Authority consultation on higher court rights closing last week, Obiter has decided to re-open an old competition to find the youngest person to have qualified as a solicitor-advocate. The crown has until now been worn by Rhodri Williams, pictured above, of Welsh firm Leo Abse & Cohen, who qualified at 25 years and 244 days. His accolade even prompted a piece in the Western Mail, championing him as the winner of our little competition. Alas for Rhodri, it appears that he will now have to hand over the title. Rob Mochrie of Middlesbrough firm Watson Woodhouse got in touch to say he qualified at the age of 24 years and 289 days, having been granted higher rights on 19 March this year (he was born on 2 June 1982). But he's not our new champion. This accolade goes instead to Lindsey Bartling, who has recently joined Manchester firm Horwich Farrelly. She was born on 20 June 1982 and was granted higher rights on 1 November 2006 - at the grand old age of 24 years and 134 days.
