A hearing at the Employment Appeal Tribunal in London this week will consider whether the Central Arbitration Committee has jurisdiction to consider an application by a trade union for recognition at delivery company Roofoods Limited, trading as Deliveroo. The decision hinges on whether the company’s riders are ‘workers’ or independent contractors.

The Law Society last week welcomed reports that Deliveroo has removed provisions in its riders’ contracts barring them from going to tribunal in the event of disputes.
