Beneath the Wood is an award-winning farm and domestic animal sanctuary in Wales, caring for around 135 animals, mostly large commercial breed pigs but also sheep, dogs, cats and horses. We provide a safe haven for the most vulnerable of animals, giving them permanent sanctuary for life. We also campaign for a cruelty-free world and are a no-kill sanctuary.
The 53 pigs
In 2019 we were involved in a high-profile case that rescued 53 pigs from appalling conditions at an illegal slaughterhouse. Some of the pigs were pregnant so 53 soon became over 90. We now have nearly 100 pigs.
Our other animals
We specialise in saving at risk dogs with challenging behaviour issues that mean they are not able to be rehomed. Dogs come to us from other rescues, vets or from the police. We also offer a permanent home to unwanted horses and sheep that are at risk of slaughter.
