For over 150 years, the British Red Cross has run towards disaster – to go where we’re needed most, when we’re needed most.
As part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, spanning the UK and 190 countries, our teams respond to emergencies with life-saving practical and emotional support. When disaster strikes, our volunteers are already on the ground - reaching through the rubble after an earthquake, offering shelter from floods and wildfires, and staying long after the headlines fade to help communities rebuild and prepare for the future.
Here in the UK, our emergency response teams support communities an average of three times a day, every day. We’re the only voluntary organisation to offer a nationwide, 24/7 crisis response service, 365 days a year.
But our work goes beyond emergencies. We help people recover with dignity and comfort – providing short-term care after hospital stays, supporting independent living, and relieving pressure on health and care services. In 2024, we helped over 76,000 people live independently, with 75% of people we supported able to remain at home, avoiding unnecessary admission to a care home.
Our community education programmes empower millions of children and adults each year with vital life skills - from first aid and resilience-building to humanitarian values that inspire compassion and action.
