For 40 years, the u3a movement has been providing older adults with life-changing opportunities and experiences. At a time when social isolation across all generations is a huge problem, u3a offers a low-cost and fun way for those no longer in full-time work, to learn something new, share skills and forge lasting friendships in a relaxed and informal way.
u3a gives a warm welcome in a world which has seen far too many older people cut off from society in recent years. Although we are a comparatively small organisation we make a big difference to people’s lives by inspiring confidence in older age. People tell us that u3a has made them feel valued and supported in new communities, has made them feel less lonely, and enabled them to enjoy their life once again.
We do this through our UK-wide network of local u3as, run by members who volunteer their time to offer a wide range of activities from Walking to Talking, Geology to Genealogy, and Climate Change to Crafting to name a few.
The u3a movement is a family, connecting across geographical boundaries through things like our online learning events, our quarterly magazine, our monthly newsletter and even a radio podcast which is produced by members.
