Colin Bohanna reflects on why he has joined Dye & Durham UK, what’s changing and how legal professionals can benefit from a more connected, customer-first approach to technology (sponsored content)
After more than two decades in technology and commercial leadership, I’ve worked with everything from fast-scaling start-ups to global software giants.
When the opportunity came to join Dye & Durham UK as Managing Director, I saw something different - an organisation with the scale and experience to make a real impact on legal professionals and with an appetite to keep improving.
Dye & Durham has brought together many of the UK’s most trusted legal technology and service providers so has a very strong foundation. These are respected firms with decades of knowledge and customer relationships. My role is to work with the team to bring all of that together under one platform, one brand and one clear focus. It’s an exciting prospect.
Putting Customers at the Centre
Since stepping into the role earlier this year, I’ve been focused on two things: stabilising the organisation and realigning it to serve the UK legal market more effectively. We’ve moved to a more regional structure that I believe puts us closer to our customers and allows us to respond more directly to their needs.
One of the first priorities was to boost the customer experience. That meant rolling out a centralised support platform, giving our teams better tools to manage queries, provide faster responses and deliver a more consistent experience across the board. But improving support isn’t just about systems. It’s about creating a customer-first culture that runs through every part of the business.
We’re already seeing positive results, from quickerresolution times to higher customer satisfaction scores, however this is just the beginning.
Navigating the Future of Legal Tech
Beyond customer service, I’m also excited by the broader opportunities technology presents, especially in areas like Artificial Intelligence.
I’ve seen how powerful these AI tools can be in other industries, but in legal, there’s a responsibility to adopt them thoughtfully. We all know that AI has the potential to drive real efficiency yet it also challenges traditional pricing models and raises important questions about data privacy and client value.
At Dye & Durham, we’re working to support firms through this shift; helping them to identify the tools that are secure, useful and genuinely improve how they operate. It’s not about chasing trends but about making tech work in the real world.
Mentoring, Leadership and the Power of Teams
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring early-stage founders through Enterprise Ireland. For nearly a decade, I’ve helped entrepreneurs turn their ideas into thriving businesses and if I’ve learned anything, it’s that ideas are only the start. Success is just as much about structure and creating the right conditions for people to do their best work.
That same philosophy guides in how I lead in business today. I don’t believe in micromanagement.
No one ever did their best thinking with someone hovering over their shoulder! I believe in giving people clear direction, confidence and tools, then backing them to get on with it.
I would say that good leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about asking the right questions, clearing obstacles and cheering on the wins, big and small.
Whether I’m working with a support team, a product function or a law firm partner, I focus on helping people to unlock their potential and giving them the confidence and support they need to make great things happen. After all, when your team thrives, your business usually follows.
The Future
Looking ahead, my vision for Dye & Durham UK is simple: to be recognised as a trusted partner to legal professionals. That means delivering practical tools, quality support and a platform that brings all of this together.
We know that legal professionals are under pressure to do more with less, so my goal is to make sure we’re right there beside them and not just as a ‘software provider’, but as a long-term ally in their ongoing success.
