Candidate numbers for the University of Law’s LLB law degree have risen by nearly 60% in the course’s second year, with close to 1,000 applications so far for 2013 compared with around 600 last year, the institution said today.

This surge in applications flies in the face of the continuing oversupply of law graduates.

The university’s president and provost professor Nigel Savage (pictured) said: ‘We focus on teaching students the important skills and knowledge they need to kick-start their careers in law.’

London Bloomsbury Centre student Josephine Onwubiko said: ‘The university tailors everything around becoming a lawyer and you constantly get tutor feedback and great advice. Everything we do is about how to become a solicitor or a barrister. It’s extremely practical and all about employability.’

The LLB programme is available at centres in Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, London Bloomsbury, Manchester and York.
