A prominent City of London law firm is expanding its specialist provision for South African clients with the appointment of a litigation solicitor, qualified in England and Wales, South Africa and New York State, USA.

Michele Gioia joins Carter Lemon Camerons LLP having spent the last seven years practising as a litigation and commercial advocate – the equivalent of a barrister – in South Africa.

A number of Michele’s established clients in South Africa have interests in the UK and he joins the experienced team of solicitors at Carter Lemon Camerons LLP who are able to provide English law services to clients in South Africa.

Seamus Smyth, a partner and the firm’s Head of Litigation and Arbitration, also graduated and qualified as an attorney in South Africa and has for many years maintained a close working relationship with South Africa’s legal profession.

Michele will work with Seamus, receiving referrals and instructions from South African clients direct and from attorneys throughout South Africa on behalf of clients who need assistance with an English matter.

Michele said: ’I am delighted to be joining Carter Lemon Camerons LLP. The firm has an established reputation for its strong links with the South African legal profession and I look forward to being able to help develop this further.’

Seamus Smyth added: “It is wonderful to be able to welcome Michele to the firm. His experience across two jurisdictions means that he is uniquely placed to advise clients on a range of cross-border matters.

’I know that our clients in the UK, South Africa and elsewhere will value his input.’
