Clyde & Co has today announced the appointment of Alejandro Garcia as partner in its Global Arbitration group.

Alejandro is a Chilean-born arbitration specialist with over a decade of experience across major arbitral seats in Latin America, Europe and Asia. He joins from Winston & Strawn and was previously at Herbert Smith Freehills.

Alejandro’s practice focuses on both investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration, primarily in Europe and Latin America. One of his particular specialisms is advising on treaty disputes in the renewable energy sector within the European Union (EU). He also sits as a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) panellist.

Peter Hirst, co-chair of Clyde & Co’s Global Arbitration Group, comments: ’We’re delighted to have Alejandro join the firm. With his extensive international arbitration expertise, particularly in Latin American disputes, he is going to prove a real asset to our clients.’

‘We’re seeing increasing demand for arbitrations to be conducted fully in Spanish and it is now common-place to see arbitration provisions specifying that Spanish be used in an English, American or French seat. With Alejandro on board we will be even better positioned to advise our clients.’

Alejandro Garcia comments: ’I am thrilled to be joining Clyde & Co’s market-leading arbitration group. It provides me with an enviable global platform from which to grow a practice and make the most of a real opportunity for growth in Latin America, something the firm’s recent office opening in Miami and Mexico City will facilitate.’
