Dentons, has strengthened its Bratislava office with the recruitment of Juraj Gyarfáš as a partner. He will add to the firm’s capabilities in corporate and M&A, litigation and dispute resolution and competition and antitrust.

Juraj Gyarfáš focuses on M&A, dispute resolution and competition law. He has advised sellers and buyers on numerous high-profile deals in Slovakia and the wider CEE region, including HB Reavis on the sale of several office, retail and logistics assets in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He also advised Fortuna Entertainment Group on the acquisition of Hattrick Sports Group Ltd., Ireland, the owner of betting operators in Romania and Croatia and B2B operators in Spain, Germany and other European countries. He also represents clients in post-M&A disputes and related competition matters.

He joins Dentons from Allen & Overy, where he was the head of the competition practice in Bratislava, and spent half a year on secondment in Brussels, working on cases before the European Commission and EU Courts. Prior to that, he worked at Dentons’ legacy firm Salans.

International legal directory Chambers Europe 2019 recognizes Gyarfáš as one of Slovakia’s leading lawyers in three different areas of law - dispute resolution, competition/antitrust and corporate/M&A. He is also recognized as a “next generation lawyer” in dispute resolution in The Legal 500 EMEA.

He teaches at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava. He is also a member of the Committee for the Recodification of Private Law and the Civil Code at the Slovak Ministry of Justice. He authored the first commentary on the Slovak Arbitration Act and a first publication on M&A in Slovakia, as well as many articles on Slovak and EU Law.
