Manchester commercial law firm Kuits Solicitors has appointed Dr Craig Brownlie as a consultant patent attorney in its intellectual property team.
Brownlie is an experienced UK and European patent attorney with a technical background in physics and materials science, and a career spanning patent drafting, prosecution and contentious proceedings. He has advised clients ranging from early-stage startups and spinouts to large corporates, helping them develop IP strategies that protect innovation and support investment, while also working closely with overseas counsel on cross-border matters.
His experience covers technologies including autonomous vehicles, satellite navigation, nanotechnology, energy storage, telecommunications, robotics and medical devices, with particular expertise in software patents and computer-implemented inventions.
Bruce Jones, head of intellectual property at Kuits, commented: 'Craig’s appointment is transformative for the team because we can now offer a complete IP service, combining our experience and expertise in IP litigation and transactional matters with a full-service rights acquisition provision covering trade marks, designs and patents. Furthermore, Craig’s significant expertise in solid state physics and materials science complements our existing physics and biochemistry capabilities.'
