The City firm made the complaint after Mr Fielding left the firm suddenly on 4 June, leaving a letter behind explaining why he was leaving.A police statement said: 'The Metropolitan Police has been approached by a firm of solicitors in connection with an allegation of theft.

'No formal allegation or complaint has been made, and if one is received, it will be fully and thoroughly investigated.' Lawrence Graham refused to confirm whether an official complaint would be made, but said in a statement that it was investigating alleged financial irregularities relating to Mr Fielding, and an independent review process was in process.Jeremy Fleming
