A knock out:
You would have thought there were many litigators willing to go up for world 'white collar' boxing titles, but it has been left to former barrister Alex 'The Legal Bulldog' Mehta, who runs the Freelawyer Web site, to fight the profession's corner, so to speak.
He is captaining a team of City 'executive boxers' against a team from Wall Street in aid of London's first and only children's hospice, The Richard House Trust.
For the first time, three world titles are up for grabs, alongside other bouts, and The Legal Bulldog, who is 30, is up against New York State judge Mr Justice Phil Maier for the light-middleweight belt.
The Judge - as the 42 year old must surely be nicknamed - is apparently a tough unbeaten 30-fight veteran, fighting out of Gleason's Gym, New York, the home of champions such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Marvin Hagler and Mike Tyson.
The Judge promises a night of fistic fireworks as his 'old-school lawyering grapples with the young start-up'.
You can hear the hysterical ring announcer now: 'The new economy meets the new world.
It's The judge versus the dot-comer.'l For details on sponsoring The Legal Bulldog, tel: 07957 477062; the event, 'Capital Punishment 2', takes place on 14 June.
