The SDT suspended the respondent, of 126 Dunlace Rd, Lower Clapton, London E5 0ND, who at the material time had practised as an assistant solicitor, and later in a partnership and then on his own account, from practice for 18 months on 4 April 2000 for unbefitting conduct, in that he had compromised or impaired (or had been likely to compromise or impair) his integrity, his duty to act in the best interests of his client, his good repute or that of the profession, his proper standard of work, contrary to Practice Rule 1; and he had acted in breach of principle 12.03 (acting in circumstances in which his client could not be represented with competence or diligence), principle 12.08 (failing to carry out instructions diligently or promptly), and principle 29.09 (failing to inform client that independent advice should be sought where a claim might be justified against his firm).
The respondent was ordered to pay 1,466 costs.
