E-conveyancing 'will take as long as it takes... and we make no apology for that', the Land Registry's director of education and training told delegates. Speaking after it was revealed that the chain matrix pilot has been put on hold until early 2007 due to technical difficulties, Linda Chamberlain insisted that it was better that the system works properly when it is implemented than for it to be rushed. Meanwhile Paul Marsh, Deputy Vice-President of the Law Society, reported that there is still 'a certain amount of turmoil' over home information packs (HIPs) since the government announced in the summer that the home condition report would not be compulsory. Mr Marsh, who stressed the Society's longstanding opposition to the packs, said he preferred to call HIPs legal packs 'because that is what they now are'. Warning that 'survival is not compulsory', he advised firms to be prepared for when HIPs come into force on 1 June 2007.
