City solicitor Stephen Lewis of multinational firm Clyde & Co has been appointed a law commissioner for commercial and common law.

Lewis,  said his aim is to leave commercial law in England and Wales ’in a better state than I find it now’.

The commission is currently charged with looking at and proposing reforms in the areas of insurance contract law, bills of sale and consumer pre-payments.

’During my five years as a Law Commissioner, there will, without doubt, be further areas of commercial law that we will be asked to look at,’ Lewis said. ’I look forward to tackling these projects with great enthusiasm.’
