A settlement has been reached by the Crown Prosecution Service and its chief executive hours before the start of an employment tribunal hearing.

Rebecca Lawrence, who was appointed chief executive in 2019, was expected to give evidence at an employment tribunal hearing today, where she brought claims of discrimination on the grounds of age and sex.

A settlement was reached late yesterday following the first day of the tribunal where the three-person panel sat briefly before retiring for a reading day.

The tribunal was listed to last for five days with a number of witnesses expected to give evidence. The settlement, of which no details have been disclosed, means the listing can now be vacated.

Lawrence’s appointment as chief executive of the CPS was announced in June 2019. She started in September of that year following the interim chief executive’s retirement.

At the time, it was described as an ‘important appointment’.

The CPS has been approached for comment.
