Most creative deal: City firm Speechly Bircham advised the shareholders of Megaprint Group, the supplier of creative promotional premiums, on its sale for up to £5.5 million to EMAK Worldwide, a marketing services company headquartered in Los Angeles. EMAK was advised by its general counsel, Teresa Tormey.

Best drilled deal: National firm Pinsents acted for Abbot Group, the offshore platform drilling contractor, on its $50 million (£27 million) acquisition of Gibraltar-registered International Air Drilling Company (IADC). IADC owns and operates ten workover and drilling rigs in Libya. Baker & McKenzie's Swiss practice advised IADC.


Most regenerative deal: Regional firm Cobbetts acted for AMCO Developments on a site acquisition for a multi-million pound development in Newcastle. A joint venture between AMCO and Enterprise Heritage, advised by City firm Campbell Hooper, will develop the scheme, which is called the City Quadrant and will have 60 apartments and office, retail and leisure space. Newcastle City Council was advised by its legal services department.


Purest deal: City firm Taylor Wessing advised the shareholders of DNA Research Innovations on its sale to US company Invitrogen Corporation for up to $65 million (£35 million). DNA Research develops products for the purification of DNA. City firm DLA and US firm Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich advised Invitrogen.


Duelling deal: City firm Herbert Smith acted for Elliott Bernerd, chairman of Duelguide, and his family interests on a bid from two Australian property companies, Multiplex and Westfield, and a third investor, Aldersgate, valuing the company at £585 million. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised Duelguide, while Clifford Chance acted for Multiplex. The London offices of US firms Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and McDermott Will & Emery acted for Westfield and Aldersgate respectively.
