Michael Renouf's letter does nothing to dispel legitimate concerns about ceding powers in criminal justice to the EU (see [2004] Gazette 5 August, 14).
It is not so much the myths about Europe that concern us as the facts.
However, if, for example, the lifetime immunity from prosecution of Europol officers, the inability of British courts to review the European arrest warrant, the European Court's ruling that the EU can legitimately suppress political criticism and the draft constitution's assertion that EU law has primacy over that of member states are myths, we would be delighted if Mr Renouf would confirm it.
As for 'a sharing, rather than a loss, of sovereignty', I'm afraid the distinction is too fine for most of us to appreciate.
