A Wales firm which fought publication of a winding up order in the courts has appointed liquidators. A notice in the London Gazette has stated that Bridger & Co Limited, based in Powys, appointed liquidators from accountancy firm Leonard Curtis on 12 December.

The high street legal business was relatively small but came to wider prominence in October when it unsuccessfully applied to the High Court to prevent the advertisement of a winding up petition.

Litigation finance firm Specialist Lending Limited, trading as Duologi, had wanted to issue a petition against the firm following a statutory demand for payment of around £2.2m.

The firm’s director Philip Bridger argued it had been ‘induced’ to enter a funding agreement and that Duologi had agreed not to be ‘heavy handed’.

Deputy ICC Judge Curl KC declined to make an injunction to restrain advertisement and a notice of a petition to wind up the firm was published the day after the hearing.

According to Companies House, the latest set of accounts for Bridger & Co was due in October.

The most recently-published accounts, covering the year to 31 January 2022, show the firm had net assets of £192,000 including £61,000 cash reserves. At the time it employed 14 people.
