Inter-firm rivalries often take physical form in the sporting arena, most notably the annual 'ColeSheds Cup' in Cardiff, where Morgan Cole and Eversheds go head to head (and, at times, foot to head and fist to head) in a bruising encounter on the rugby pitch.
Last month, Liverpool firms Hogans and Mace & Jones took to the football pitch instead for a mixed-sex six-a-side game, and that is where the arguments began.
The self-styled 'Hogans Heroes' apparently fielded one less member of the fairer sex than Mace & Jones, which perhaps explains why they ran out 14-6 winners (although a note we received from Hogans argued that their opponents very much had age on their side).
Mace & Jones then dramatically claimed victory on the accepted schoolyard principle of last goal wins, but before things could get out of hand and everyone started behaving like real footballers (or Welsh rugby-playing lawyers), a decision was made to repair to the pub.
We're told that a rematch is on the cards, but apparently in a less vigorous contest, such as ten-pin bowling.
Given the ready availability of heavy objects at bowling alleys, you really have to question whether that's wise.
