Her Honour Anne Molyneux, who started her legal career as a solicitor, has been appointed a judicial member of the Parole Board and its vice chair.

Justice secretary David Lammy approved Molyneux’s appointment for a five-year term beginning this month. Alexandra Marks, Parole Board chair, designated Molyneux as the board’s vice chair, a role in which she will be expected to share in the leadership and governance of the parole board.

The new vice chair was admitted as a solicitor in 1983. She was appointed a recorder in 2000, became an independent member of the board from 2003 to 2007 and later a judicial member from 2010-2019.

Molyneux was a circuit judge for 10 years until 2017, before becoming a senior circuit judge sitting in the Central Criminal Court. She retired from that role in June 2022.

Speaking on Molyneux’s new vice chair role, Cecilia French, chief executive of the Parole Board, said: ‘Anne’s distinguished judicial career and deep understanding of parole work, built through years of service within the Board, will be invaluable to us. Her leadership experience and commitment to justice will be a tremendous asset as we continue our work to protect the public and improve the parole system.’

Molyneux added: ‘I am honoured to take on the role of vice chair. Having served the Parole Board in various capacities over many years, I have seen first-hand the skill, care, and professionalism shown by its members and staff. I look forward to supporting the Board’s vital work and contributing to its continued development in the years ahead.’
