Stephen Baggott points to 'other reprehensible behaviour' that can be led to the court under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (see [2005] Gazette, 10 February, 16).

Never mind committing adultery, watching pornography or nose-picking, what of the new Hunting Act? If I am summonsed for the heinous crime of fox-hunting, will my previous reprehensible behaviour as a lifelong hunting man be admissible? I went to a bullfight once, too, so I must be a thoroughly bad person.

The man on the Clapham omnibus tends to disapprove of my dressing up in 18th century garb to pursue a fox, though he will perhaps tolerate my equally ridiculous dress code when I appear before the Crown Court to represent him on his appeal for failing to pay the fare.
