International Union of Notaries - appointment of Law Society co-representative
The Law Society is seeking an additional representative for the International Union of Latin Notaries (UNIL) to join its existing representative to this body.
This vacancy arises from the retirement of one of the Law Society's two appointees to this body.
The UNIL is a non-governmental organisation that brings together representatives from notaries' bodies around the world to promote and co-ordinate international notarial activity and improve the service that notaries can give to their individual clients and the community.
It was founded in 1948 and today brings together representatives of 67 countries from four continents.
Applicants for the post of Law Society co-representative to the UNIL should be both a member of the Law Society and a qualified notary.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an interest in comparative law and research and should be able to speak and read French fluently.
A knowledge of German would be an advantage.
The UNIL meets twice a year in different locations (travelling and incidental expenses are paid) and the successful candidate for this post would be expected to attend at least one of these meetings (and ideally both) each year.
Membership will require an additional time commitment for preparation and comment on documents prior to and between meetings.
All solicitors with the enthusiasm, expertise and time necessary, irrespective of sex, race, colour, age, sexuality, religion or disability are welcome to apply.
Appointments will be made following interviews of shortlisted candidates.
For an application pack, contact Alison Hook, Head of International at the Law Society, International Unit, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL; DX 56 London/ Chancery Lane; e-mail: alison.hook@lawsociety.org.uk
The closing date for applications is 6 January 2003.
Interviews will take place later in January.
