A litigation funder backed by a private equity investor says it may increase its £100m investment next year due to high demand.

Vannin Capital, based on the Isle of Man, announced in May it would quadruple its investment facility over six months with backing from private equity firm Bramden Investments.

It has committed more than £25m to seven UK cases, along with backing two international arbitrations and a large US patent claim.

Nick Rowles-Davies, consultant at Vannin Capital, said the business is likely to increase its funding facility in 2013.

‘The market needs to see that there are active and credible funders in operation,’ he said. ‘Our decision to increase the funds we have available is fully justified and we expect to commit at least the same amount again over the next six months.’

Vannin Capital says it has established itself as one of the most active funders in the market since it was formed less than 18 months ago.

Its team combines business leaders with legal professionals, having recruited former Irwin Mitchell partner William Evans, deputy High Court judge Nick Stewart QC and Rowles-Davies, previously of commercial firm Bridgehouse Partners.
