The Legal Aid Practitioners’ Group has announced the finalists for its Lawyer of the Year 2011.

They include Razi Shah, solicitor at Windsor firm Appleby Shaw, who successfully appealed against the custodial sentence given to Munir Hussain.

Hussain had been convicted of grevious bodily harm on an intruder who had threatened his family with a knife.

Lorna Cservenka, solicitor at London firm Hanne & Co, was praised by judges for her work in a care case challenging apparently unassailable hair strand testing evidence, which resulted in a young woman’s children being returned to her.
