Leaving Kent is commercial litigator Joanna Case, who has swapped Cripps Harries Hall for Crawley-based Rawlison & Butler, where she will be the firm's ninth partner.And leaving Surrey is Terry Rechtern, who has moved from Sutton firm John Chapman & Co to head a new conveyancing department at Southend firm Twitchen Musters & Kelly.Manchester firm Cobbetts has appointed Anne Quirk, formerly of Beachcroft Wansbroughs, as a partner in the property division.Nottingham firm Freethcartwright has recruited commercial property lawyer John Frith from Shoosmiths as a senior assistant partner.Birmingham-based Martineau Johnson has appointed the youngest senior partner in the firm's history.
Thirty-nine year-old William Barker, head of the intellectual property department, replaces Michael Shepherd, who steps down after seven years in the job.
He will continue as a partner.Allan Leung, the head of Lovells' commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice in Asia, has been appointed managing partner of its Hong Kong office.Allen & Overy partner Claire Wright is moving to Hong Kong, where she will head the communications, media and technology group.
PRIVATE PRACTICEAssociates/ AssistantsIn addition to its new partner, London firm Collyer-Bristow has brought in John Simmons from specialist music practice Kanaar & Co as an associate, and fellow media and entertainment lawyer Moyra Partington from The Simkins Partnership as an assistant.Asset finance lawyer Francis Sergejew has followed Nigel Weiss in leaving Mayer Brown & Platt for Denton Wilde Sapte.
He is a senior solicitor.Mark Stiebel has joined Thomas Cooper & Stibbard from RD Black & Co as an assistant, specialising in dry shipping and commodities.Soho firm Gersten & Nixon has been joined by immigration solicitors Monika Patel (previously at Traymans) and Julie Cornes (from Colchester firm Fisher Jones Greenwood), while Dominic Green will soon arrive from John Byrne & Co to undertake intellectual property and media work.Cobbetts has boosted its licensing and regulatory team with associate Darren Luty, previously with Elliotts.Fellow Manchester firm Wacks Caller has five new appointments.
Insolvency lawyer Andrew Tonge moves from Horwich Farrelly as an associate, while the rest are assistants: Michael Hewitt and Joseph Johnston have both joined the commercial property department from Davies Wallis Foyster; Natasha Flynn also joins the insolvency department, moving from Bolton firm Fielding Porter; and newly qualified David Ziskind joins the commercial property department from Lopian Wagner.
IN-HOUSEAnne Fletcher has been appointed the BBC's legal adviser, reporting to the director of public policy.
She will lead the BBC's central legal function responsible for advice on regulation and legislation affecting the corporation, together with editorial, programme issues, and litigation.
She will join next month from British Telecom, where she is director of regulatory compliance.DaimlerChrysler has appointed Chrissi Evans as its new legal general manager in the UK.
She joins from Booker after time at General Motors.Nicholas Narraway, legal director of Premier Fund Managers and Premier Portfolio Managers, has had his workload increased with his appointment as company secretary to parent company Premier Asset Management.
CORRECTIONIn [2001] Gazette, 18 January, 12, Mary Barlow was said to have left DLA's Manchester office to join Davies Wallis Foyster.
She in fact left DLA's Bradford office.
