A libel and content specialist, Mr Soames joins from Pinsent Curtis Biddle.In UK/US firm Steptoe & Johnson Rakisons, two new partners are establishing a London-based practice group focusing on EU and international law, trade and investment matters: Iain MacVay, previously with Rowe & Maw, and Chris Gibson, former head of e-commerce at the World Intellectual Property Organisation.Hardwick Stallards has brought in planning and commercial property solicitor Nick Cheshire as a partner from Howard Kennedy.

Denton Wilde Sapte has appointed music partner Charles Law from Harbottle & Lewis, where he currently represents such musical luminaries as Judge Jules and Catatonia.Herbert Smith has promoted Alison Brown to partner after five years working in the pensions group.

There are two new partners at Beale & Co, which has promoted indemnity dispute resolution lawyers Lyndon Richards and Cathy Smith.Kennan Michel has been elected to continue as managing partner at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

This was the first time the position had been put to a full partnership vote; previously the holder was selected by the management board.Toby Greenbury is to move up from corporate insurance partner to succeed Colin Joseph as senior partner of DJ Freeman.Stephen Woolfe moves up from managing partner to succeed Roger Bowder as senior partner of Leicester firm Harvey Ingram Owston.

Chris Finlay, head of the firms employment law group, is to step up as managing partner.Also in the east midlands, Browne Jacobson of Nottingham, is to move its head of property, Brian Smith, into the position of managing partner.

Personal injury lawyer Angela Jones has made the short trip from Preston firm Birchall Blackburn to the Blackpool office of Lonsdales and the position of senior solicitor.

Manchester commercial firm Perkins & Company has promoted Karen Tinker to associate in the commercial property department.Bury-based specialist personal injury practice Graham Leigh Pfeffer has made three assistants up to associates: Amanda Marsh, Claire Forinton and Sharon Denby.Philip Lloyd-Williams has left his role as legal services manager at Stafford Borough Council to become head of law and administration at Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.The Birmingham office of DLA has appointed Nick Jew as an associate in the human resources department.

He joins the firm after heading the employment team of east midlands practice Howes Percival.As well as a management reshuffle (see above), Harvey Ingram Owston of Leicester has promoted Shameer Sacranie and Jeremy Tucker to associate in itse-commerce, IT, intellectual property and taxation unit.

Pensions and employee benefits specialist Danny Tsang joins US firm McDermott Will & Emerys London office as a senior associate from Denton Wilde Sapte.Jones & Warner has recruited employment lawyer Angela Gill as a senior associate.

She joins from Surrey firm, Stevens & Bolton.Kent firm Cripps Harries Hall has added solicitor Jane Rowan to its commercial property department from City firm Field Fisher Waterhouse.

OthersIn addition to a new music partner (see above), Denton Wilde Sapte has appointed John Benedict as a full-time consultant in its music team.

Mr Benedict joins after previously working as managing director legal at China Records.Another consultant is Richard Sowler, who has joined City firm Richards Butler from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a senior tax manager and international structuring group leader.Credit card issuer Capital One Bank has appointed a new chief legal counsel in the shape of Nick Carter.

He joins from Freshfields, where he was a partner specialising in intellectual property, information technology and science law.
