I could not agree more with Ian Ashley-Smith's letter (see [2005] Gazette, 17 February, 15). One wonders whether mothers who receive no financial support from the fathers of their children will only get the government to sit up and take notice of the injustice of their situation (the ineptness of the Child Support Agency and the courts' lack of jurisdiction) if they adopt the tactics of the manifold fathers' campaigning groups, which have coincidentally led to a (albeit, long overdue) review of the enforcement of contact orders.

The trouble is that mothers are just too sensible and child-focused to put their lives at risk and cause untold financial damage by dressing up in silly costumes, cavorting in front of the media, and bringing shame and embarrassment to their children.
