Mary Robinson (pictured), former president of Ireland, was one of three recipients of the inaugural LexisNexis Rule of Law Awards at an event in New York City last week.

The event introduced an initial draft of the Global Rule of Law Business Principles developed by LexisNexis and thinktank the Atlantic Council in consultation with the UN.

The six principles, which include committing businesses to ‘encourage the protection of human rights’ are available at the LexisNexis website.

Awards were also presented to Ban Ki-moon, secretary-general of the UN, and Laurel Bellows, past-president of the American Bar Association.
