Stroock by the naked truth

'The Stroock summer associate program: Glamorous work, lavish meals, theatre tickets.

Your basic deal with the devil.' This is all part of a radical new approach to recruitment from New York law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, which has taken the always-risky approach of using humour and even a dash of honesty to promote itself.

But in this case, it is largely successful, with such advice as: 'You are about to become a lawyer.

Think about it: This may be the last time anyone is totally up front and 80% honest with you.' The site also includes a guide to 'Recruitspeak', so when a firm says it works on cutting-edge matters, the truth is: 'This is true for many firms.

The real question is: What will your role be in these cutting-edge matters? Making law can be thrilling; making photocopies of new law, not so.' But perhaps the sagest advice comes in a section giving interviewing tips: Avoid words like 'friggin'.

If only more firms would provide recruits with such help.
