Unhappy couples snap up divorce CDFAMILY LAW: firm moves away from on-line helpCouples who want to untie the knot but keep the involvement of lawyers to a minimum have been snapping up new DIY Divorce CDs from a Worcester law firm in a shift away from the on-line divorce fad.Woolley & Co has so far supplied 25 clients with the CDs, which feature guidance notes, court forms, and draft letters for each stage.
The firm opted for CDs as they cut out time-consuming downloading from the Internet.Three versions are available, covering divorces brought about by unreasonable behaviour, adultery, and two years separation with consent. The firm claimed that at 99 plus VAT per CD, the service saves clients up to 300 on legal fees. But senior partner Andrew Woolley said that lawyers will still play a part in the process, providing up to one hours support via telephone or e-mail as part of the deal.
This just helps clients keep control of their lives, freeing up lawyers to advise on what they should be advising on children and financial settlements, he said.
It is just the method of delivery of the advice that is different.
Also new on the market is an on-line service for separated or divorced couples who want to cement their financial arrangements.
The clean break consent order available for 60 from divorce-online.co.uk includes a draft order, court application and guide to court procedure.Divorce-onlines operations director, Mike Keenan, said: This allows couples to tie up their financial affairs, which in reality may have been settled, but which needformal approval.Paula Rohan
