An Australian litigation firm is embarking on a recruitment drive to tempt British lawyers to come Down Under.

Shine Lawyers is seeking is seeking experienced commercial litigation and class actions solicitors from the UK to relocate to Australia, with the firm offering visa sponsorship, relocation support and financial assistance for successful candidates and their immediate families. Shine is also pledging to support candidates to gain Australian admission qualifications where required.

The firm says it has already relocated dozens of UK lawyers to work in one of its 43 offices dotted across the country.

Managers will travel to the UK this autumn to interview candidates and the firm insists it is serious about wanting to provide a route to practise in Australia.

‘This is not speculative recruitment, this is a proven pathway for us at Shine,’ said head of class actions Craig Allsopp. ‘Shine has historically recruited around 50 talented people from the UK, many of whom have gone on to build longstanding and successful careers with us in Australia.

‘We know the calibre of UK litigators, we know they transition well into our practice, and we know Shine can offer the kind of complex, meaningful and high-impact work that ambitious lawyers are looking for.’

Class actions is a strategic growth area for the firm, with lawyers joining the team to work on significant emerging cases from their earliest stages. Successful candidates will work on a range of investigations and filed matters, drafting legal documents, using e-discovery tools and helping to coach junior lawyers.

Allsopp added: ‘For UK lawyers considering a move to Australia, Shine offers more than a role. We offer sponsorship, relocation support, a clear pathway into meaningful plaintiff litigation and the chance to help shape the next chapter of class actions in this country.’

The roles are open to solicitors with significant post-admission experience in complex commercial litigation or class actions, whether from a claimant or defendant background.

Allsopp, chief legal officer Lisa Flynn and Dustin Cherry, head of people and performance, will visit Manchester and London in October to interview candidates in person.

Those looking to practise in Australia for more than 90 days or join a law firm as partner, director or other principal must register as an ‘Australian-registered foreign lawyer’ and secure a practising certificate for the territory they are working in.
