Is anyone really expecting Sir Geoffrey Vos, master of the rolls for six hectic years, suddenly to develop a passion for sitting around doing nothing? Sure enough: ‘It’s quite possible my retirement won’t be completely retirement,’ he told a gathering of techie types this week. ‘I won’t be gardening all the time every day.’

Sir Geoffrey Vos: 'my retirement won’t be completely retirement'

For a start, Sir Geoffrey will hold on to the reins of two pet projects: the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce and International Jurisdiction Taskforce, both of which operate under the LawtechUK umbrella. The first taskforce aims to build confidence in the ability of UK jurisdictions to handle the challenges of new technologies without waiting decades for definitive case law to emerge.

The international taskforce’s remit is even more challenging: to reduce frictions between civil and common law jurisdictions which obstruct the adoption of new technologies. ‘We’re not saying what should be the case but to work with what we find in the law across different jurisdictions,’ he said. Even so, plenty of work lies ahead.

On top of that, Sir Geoff threw in a mention of a future intergalactic taskforce. He was kidding. We think.
