It’s been a busy few weeks for the Law Society Yacht Club – open to sailors of all abilities with a connection to the profession. On 23 April club member Andrew Hobson and his wife Luci hosted a day out on board their Sadler 29 Miss Piggy. Conditions were windy but fair and we had a great day sailing across to Portland Harbour.

Meanwhile five members, skippered by Gazette news editor Michael Cross, chartered the Bavaria 36 Anodynes from Plymouth for a week’s cruise up and down the Devon and Cornwall coasts. Conditions were variable but by working the tides we were able to creep into some favourite up-river anchorages when the seas looked lumpy. We were lucky enough to be joined for a couple of days by club secretary Finbarr Leahy, a master mariner in his former life and a very firm hand on the helm.

Highlights included being accompanied by dolphins off Berry Head and the sighting of a seal in Plymouth Harbour - as well as the visiting Netherlands frigate HNLMS Tromp.

Next up? On 12 June the club is holding its annual day out racing Mermaid classic day boats at the Seaview Yacht Club, Isle of Wight. It is our annual 'grudge match' against the bar. We have a couple of places available - no racing experience is necessary. Email secretary@lawsocyc.org.uk.
