Obiter last week had the privilege of hearing the lord chancellor confess to plagiarism. Chris Grayling was speaking at an event at Mansion House to start the countdown to the 2015 Global Law Summit, an event showcasing Britain’s legal expertise and celebrating 800 years since Magna Carta. He admitted that he was guilty of ‘competitiveness and plagiarism’ in the idea, which he got after being invited to attend the annual St Petersburg International Legal Forum.

Grayling told the audience of legal luminaries that he thought Britain had a stronger legal tradition, and if anyone is celebrating, it should be the Brits. Obiter sincerely hopes the lord chancellor does not pinch too many other ideas from the Russian Federation.
