The Competition and Markets Authority has great timing. A week after dumping another antitrust probe on lawyers, the cartel watchdog is seeking their help to fulfil its mission of ‘making markets work’.

Some 130 law firms headquartered in the West Midlands are being contacted by the CMA and encouraged to share the watchdog’s ‘easy-to-use competition law information’ with their SME clients. Apparently only 12% of SMEs in the region know much about the subject, a smaller proportion than anywhere else in the UK.

A government press release declares, brightly: ‘Legal advisers to SMEs are ideally placed to help raise awareness of competition law among their clients.’

Please form an orderly queue.
