It was inevitable that lawyers and politicians would get in on the latest craze to hit the silly season. One of the first to brave the ice bucket challenge was Filippo Noseda (pictured), partner at international firm Withersworldwide, in aid of motor neurone disease research charities and the firm’s charity of the year, BackUp. Meanwhile shadow justice secretary Sadiq Khan did the challenge outside Tooting Broadway tube station in London, nominating his opposite number, the justice secretary and lord chancellor Chris Grayling, as well as London mayor Boris Johnson.

After his chilly soaking Richard Doughty, the public affairs officer at CILEx nominated the chief executives of the Law Society, Bar Council and CILEx: they were set to succumb as the Gazette went to press. Obiter is enjoying our own version of the ice bucket challenge, which will involve gin, tonic and a slice of lime – none of which will be landing on anyone’s head.
