Lord Justice Briggs, proselytiser of the online court and of taking the ‘A’ out of ‘ADR’, evidently loves living dangerously.

But he also knows when not to steer too close to the edge, as he explained to an event organised by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Briggs was invited to deliver the keynote speech two years ago, but was unable to do so due to a cycle crash. ‘Two weeks ago I was kayaking towards a waterfall in New Zealand, but a desire not to let you down twice kept me away from the very risky bit,’ he said.
