It is always nice to receive a compliment, its form and where it comes from can add to the delight of the praise. Even if you feel a little awkward when it comes to any kind of admiration, the gesture can at least be appreciated.

Obiter hopes the legal parties involved in Ensign House Limited v Ensign House (FEC) Limited & ors felt that instant serotonin hit a kind word can give and a clearly well-deserved ego boost.

Mr Justice Leech: 'This trial was noticeable for the good humour and co-operation on both sides'

Mr Justice Leech, in his 349-page 825-paragraph judgment on a property development dispute, took time to acknowledge the hard work of counsel and the instructing solicitors.

He said: ‘I am grateful to counsel and their instructing solicitors for the quality of their written and oral submissions and the assistance which they gave the court. I should record that this trial was noticeable for the good humour and co-operation on both sides, which can often be lacking in long trials where serious allegations are made and much is at stake.’

It was lovely to read and high (court) praise indeed so Obiter doffs its cap to Joanne Wicks KC and Lee Jia Wei instructed by Spector Constant & Williams Ltd on behalf of the claimant and Jonathan Seitler KC, Benjamin Faulkner and Francesca Mitchell instructed by DLA Piper UK LLP for the defendants.
