Sadly the second episode of The Prosecutors: Real Crime and Punishment failed to thaw relations between the prosecution and defence, if the twitterati are anything to go by.

One solicitor-advocate sniped: ‘Next series, let defence lawyers handpick the cases the CPS ought to be followed on. Then you can see the real CPS.’

Sensing the growing rage, Mark George QC, head of Garden Court North Chambers, replied: ‘Not sure watching this programme will do much for your blood pressure.’

The final episode airs on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC Four. Take a few deep breaths before tuning in.
