Our beloved super-regulator the Legal Services Board is getting to know the neighbours at its new headquarters, One Kemble Street near Covent Garden.

The circular mini skyscraper, designed by Richard Seifert of Centre Point fame in the 1960s, was originally known as Space House. We suggest it be renamed Quango Towers.

Apart from the headquarters of the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, it houses HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate, the Office of Rail Regulation and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Obiter pities the poor newbie with the temerity to venture into another department to borrow a stapler or Post-it notes without permission. Equally fearsome must be the building’s Office Party Oversight Committee, responsible for mandating all decisions relating to the communal bash.

Obiter understands that on such occasions recreational use of the photocopier is allowed but only if copies are made and signed in triplicate.
