I dont remember being particularly stressed as a pupil in Chambers back in the mid-noughties or when I went in house (and all my work is public facing courts and tribunals even when inhouse). The stress levels came about for me during and since lockdowns due to the isolation, 90% remote hearings, and disconnect from colleagues and the profession generally, with the ever over reach of the regulator. Keeps one on edge all the time. It is a rewarding profession and it is hard work but intellectually satisfying. I am looking for something else that justifies leaving the profession though. Just need to figure out what that is! PS: I disagree with one of the comments below that it is an elitist profession. There are some elitist Chambers, and then a lot depends on your practice area - commercial would be very different from, say, a general common law set.
