It's a bit of a Gangster's charter, though isn't it.

Nobody can prove by whom the "killer" blow was inflicted, the blow that changed it from a "we thought we'd have a laugh 'n that by brayin him cos he looked at me bird in a funny way innit" to section 18 / murder.

Each of the accused runs a cut-throat defence. None of them had the requisite intention. Well, one of them may have done, but who knows which one.

And they either all get off, or the stupidest one gets convicted, or the one whose advocate is least able in court. And all the rest get off.
