David, whatever your (or my) views on the subject, the court has ruled that the exit mechanism must involve Parliament, and if the Supreme Court upholds that ruling, Brexit can only be achieved with Parliament. That may raise political issues, but (at the moment) the legal position is clear.

The referendum question was very straightforward, in or out, with no room for any nuances like 'soft' or 'hard' Brexit. Practically speaking, it seems to me that if the referendum result alone is sufficient authority, it doesn't mandate the Government to negotiate a particular type of exit, just to exit.
