Well, Anon 13.57, we can do that, but there is no guarantee that business operating in other countries will think that the new UK regime, whatever it may be, is as attractive as regimes offered by countries still within the EU; and may therefore decide they would rather concentrate their efforts elsewhere. The assumption that the UK can do whatever it likes without regard to the impact on others, who will just grin and bear it, is optimistic, to say the least.
