“..Let's all keep our feet on the ground. ..”

Indeed.

The public protection element of the sentence must have passed or the Parole Board would not have released on licence as we know, or they are amenable to Judicial Review and I haven’t heard that this is planned (in which case the notes etc of the hearing might well have to be released for that purpose alone). However odious he is he has been sentenced on the facts and released on the facts of the sentence, however as you make clear, any opportunistic politician seeking a higher electoral mandate in their marginal seat may wish to mine to the contrary.

“...4. The Board was created in 1967 specifically to be independent of Ministers - and therefore of anyone who might put pressure on Ministers - and that includes the press. ....”

Exactly correct no matter how Yvette Cooper or other opportunists may wish was not the case. But then again my understanding is she has a Humanities Degree which speaks volumes?

“...Fourth - there may be arguments for the Board releasing more information (and there are excellent arguments against) but the desire of the tabloid press for cheap copy is not one of them. And any change can only be prospective. ...”

To the public there would be no unfettered release. To the court there would and retrospective.
