As I understand matters (having been only 5 years old at the time) scale fees were abolished in 1973. It is a bit tedious regularly hearing harping on about them in these columns, 45 years later. There are numerous obvious reasons against such a structure today - basically the flip side of why some solicitors would like that concept to return. Conveyancing competition is fierce, to be sure - but who dares, wins.
