I agree to some extent. However, I am aware of a case whereby the purported seller saw a property to let and moved in. He downloaded the title from the Land Registry, changed his name by Deed Poll to be the name of the owner. He changed his passport, driving licence, council tax, utility bills etc and then went to an agent for a sale and physically went into the solicitors with all this ID.

I hope that the above scenario will not fall foul of the courts decision. There does not appear to be anything more that a solicitor can do to prevent fraud.

Of course the Government could restrict the public access to the land registry. But they won't.
